The Data Protection Act 1998

How does it affect you?

The Data Protection Act 1998 came into effect in March 2000 but many company directors and business owners are still unaware of its content – despite the threat of fines and/or imprisonment for failing to comply!

Companies should designate a member of staff as Data Controller who must select a reputable data processor in order to facilitate the destruction of obsolete personal data held by the company.

Your company is responsible for the integrity of data held and in any case irreparable damage to your reputation could be sustained if any legal action were to be taken against you.

The Dangers

The following items are considered confidential:
• Personnel files, Social Security and PAYE records
• Accounts and VAT records
• Customer information and Sales enquiries
• Banking information and credit card details
• Personal health information

In addition to your statutory requirements you should keep your own business affairs confidential – why let your competitors know the secret of your success?

CS Shredding Ltd is your solution to this problem – contact us today – we’ll be very happy to assist.
